The use of motor fuel tax
funds are strictly limited by statute and Illinois Department of Transportation
approval of the use is required prior to such use. Generally, the funds
can be used for the construction of maintenance of county highways, retiring
bonds on specific kinds of projects, the county’s match on Federal Aid
projects, allocation to a local mass transit district, and construction or
maintenance of a county garage.
