Candidate Filing Information
for the April 7, 2009 Consolidated Election

Information on this page will change as information is available from the State Board of Elections.  Please refer back often for updates.

Candidates to be elected that file with the Office of the Knox County Clerk:

  • Regional Office of Education Trustees

All other candidates will either file or run for caucus at the local office of that jurisdiction.  Please call if you have questions as to where to file paperwork.

Minimum Age

18 years.

Residency

United States Citizen; resident of the county for 30 days; registered voter in the county and jurisdiction.

Signature Requirements –

Established Party Candidates: Candidates may run for certain offices by caucus.  A caucus candidate will not have to circulate petitions and will be affiliated with the Party on the ballot.  Only Precinct Committeemen can conduct a caucus in Townships.

Independent Candidates:  Petitions must be signed by qualified voters of the county equaling not less than 5%, nor more than 8% (or 50 more than the minimum, whichever is greater), of the number of persons who voted at the 2008 General Election.  Based on this criteria, independent candidates need to submit not less than ___ signatures and no more than ___ signatures.

Additional Requirements Candidates for Multi-Township Assessor must be certified in Illinois.

Circulation Dates

Candidates may begin circulating petitions beginning October 28, 2008.

Filing Dates

January 19 through January 26, 2009 at the local governing bodies office (offices open at various times and days, please contact their office to confirm operating hours.  The County Courthouse is open at 8:30 a.m. on each weekday and close at 4:30 p.m. on each weekday except the last day, when office closes at 5 p.m. )

Where to File

Individual office of the units of government that have offices up for Election.  Only those offices that are countywide will file in the office of the Knox County Clerk, Knox County Courthouse, First Floor, 200 S. Cherry St., Galesburg, IL 61401  (Note: Petitions may be filed in person or by mail, by either the candidate or a representative of the candidate.)
