Delinquent Taxes
About
Delinquent Taxes
If the taxes due on a parcel of land are not paid by the statutory
deadline, they become delinquent. The County Clerk is responsible
for receiving payment of all delinquent taxes. Each November the County Treasurer conducts a sale of the taxes past due and
remaining unpaid for property in Knox County.
When taxes become
delinquent, property owners do not immediately lose their ownership
of the property. Property owners residing on the property have
two and a half years in which to redeem their property and
protect their interest.
