About the Office
The Knox County Clerk
is one of the most diverse jobs of all county elected
officials. The County Clerk is charged with six main duties,
including:
Illinois State
Statute, 55 ILCS
5/3-2, sets forth the main provisions of the County
Clerk's position.
The Knox County Clerk’s Office is where you go to apply for
a marriage license, obtain a copy of your birth certificate,
and register to vote.

Vital Statistics,
Licenses, and Registrations - records
and issues birth, death and marriage certificates in Knox
County. The County Clerk
registers notaries public and businesses operating under an assumed
name. Also, the County Clerk's Office issues liquor licenses, raffle
licenses, and fireworks permits for unincorporated areas of Knox
County.

Elections - maintains
voter registration files and conducts elections in the 30 precincts
outside of the City of
Galesburg.

Real Estate and Tax
Services - calculates
property tax rates for local jurisdictions, maintains records of
property boundaries and collects delinquent property taxes.
The County
Clerk
also records and maintains the
following documents: Local
Government Budgets, Levies, Annual Reports and Audits, Mobile Home
Tax Records, Delinquent Tax Records, Property Tax Extension
Information, and Certificates of Purchase & Redemptions.

Ethics and Campaign
Disclosure - collects
statements of economic interest and campaign disclosure forms from
public sector employees and candidates in Knox County.

Clerk of the Board
- provides the official record of proceedings of the Knox County
Board.
·
Finance - keeps records of every
payment order upon the
county treasurer.
